 NY Lottery to Draw Five Times Daily Starting Next Week

New Yorkers have two chances of winning a fortune every day beginning next week. This is because the New York Lottery will expand its popular Take 5 game into two daily drawings.

Beginning Monday, July 26, the New York Lottery's afternoon and evening drawing for Take 5 will be available. These draws offer top prizes up to tens of thousand of dollars for anyone who is lucky enough to correctly guess all five numbers.

If two players are drawn, the chance of winning is 1 in 9.

"Take 5 won more than 2.5 Million cash prizes last fiscal year. Gweneth, the New York Lottery Executive Director, said that New Yorkers will have more chances of winning with this new drawing.

On July 26, players can purchase tickets for both the afternoon drawing (which is scheduled for 2:30 pm) and the evening draw (which is scheduled for 10:30 pm).

Five numbers can be chosen from one to 39 by the players. All prizes will be paid on a parimutuel system, and the money distributed is based upon the number of winners for each tier. If one does not reach all five numbers, the top prize money will be added to the second.

Even though the odds of hitting all Take 5 numbers with a single ticket are low -- 1 in 575 757 -- they are still more likely than the incredible odds of winning MegaMillions tickets or Powerball tickets. The New York Lottery estimates that the jackpot for winning a Take 5 ticket with all five numbers correct is $57.575, although this figure can fluctuate depending on the betting pool.
